When Rogier isn't working, he plays! You might find him hitting tennis balls with his beautiful Chinese-American daughters (ages 9, 14, and 17); walking his two pups (a sweet German shepherd and a goofy lab mix); taking a leisurely drive in his signature yellow convertible (license plate LELLO); or attempting in vain to break the Tiny Wings world record on his iPhone.
His evocative images have appeared in print and web publications on three continents. In the United States, Rogier's work has been published in Wired, Downeast, Creativity, Professional Photographer, Rolling Stone, the New York Times, and on Petapixel, the world's top photography site.
Rogier van Bakel is the founder of You Lucky Dog, a pet-focused photo studio near Bar Harbor, Maine, in the heart of Acadia National Park. A native of the Netherlands, he brings the famous Dutch sense of light, order, and composition to his photography.
Rogier has been a Maine resident since 2005. That year, after a decade in the trenches of the New York City magazine world, he and his wife bought a historic farmhouse on the Atlantic waters of Somes Sound, the fjord that bisects Mount Desert Island.
